Hyderabad: A 19-year-old engineering student died by suicide in his hostel at Abdullapurmet on the city outskirts late on Thursday. The teen reportedly was found mostly playing online games on his mobile phone, and police are investigating if he had lost money in games and whether that was the reason for suicide.
The victim, A Bhanu Prakash, a BTech first-year student from a private engineering college at Abdullapurmet, was staying at a men’s hostel near the college.
According to the police, Bhanu Prakash, who went to his house in Wanaparthy district to celebrate Sankranti with his family, returned on Wednesday night. He died by suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan in the penthouse of his hostel building on Thursday around midnight.
He was found dead by the hostel staff, who alerted the hostel management and the police.
On information, the Abdullapurmet police reached the spot and took up an investigation. A suicide note purportedly written by Bhanu Prakash was recovered from the spot in which he had apologised to his parents for ending his life.
