Hyderabad: Two people who attended a dinner function hosted by their neighbour and, hours later, allegedly burgled his house at Hassannagar in Attapur last month were arrested by the police on Tuesday.
The arrested men were identified as Mohammed Osman (28), a hair salon operator, and Syed Anwar (20), a delivery executive with Zepto. The police said the duo were friends and lived in the same locality as the victim, Syed Hamed, a businessman. The incident took place on the intervening night of September 25.
According to the Attapur police, Osman knew that the businessman kept substantial amounts of cash at home and shared the information with Anwar. The two allegedly planned the burglary and waited for an opportunity.
On September 25, Hamed had hosted a function for his children at N.R. Function Hall and invited the two men. “After attending the function, the accused returned home and later climbed onto the victim’s house during the night. Anwar remained on the terrace to watch for people while Osman entered the house armed with a hammer and screwdriver. He broke open the bedroom locks and an almirah and stole cash and gold jewellery, including a necklace, chain and ear tops weighing about five tolas,” the police said.
They fled with Rs. 23 lakh in cash and gold jewellery worth about Rs. 1 lakh.
Based on a complaint, the police registered a case and tracked down the duo. During interrogation, they admitted to the crime. The police recovered Rs. 8.50 lakh in cash, two mobile phones, a hammer and a screwdriver from the suspects. Further investigation is underway to recover the remaining booty.
