Hyderabad: Panic spread in the surroundings when a car that came to the BPCL petrol pump caught fire at Errum Manzil in Punjagutta on Monday evening. No casualties were reported.
According to the police, fire suddenly erupted from the vehicle, which had just arrived at the petrol pump to refuel. Two passengers were seated in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The alert driver and the other occupant, who noticed sparks and thick smoke from the engine, immediately got out. The petrol pump staff, while using fire extinguishers to douse the flames, towed the vehicle out of the petrol pump and stopped it on the road, averting a major tragedy.
The fire engine too reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
