Hyderabad: To encourage animal lovers to be more accepting of adopting stray animals, Mars Petcare, an organization for pet care and pet nutrition products, hosted the Indies Dog Show at Gachibowli Dog Park on Sunday. Special Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana, Arvind Kumar, was the chief guest of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Arvind Kumar pointed out that initiatives like these will help take indie pet acceptance and adoption to the next step. “Our aim is to support all such initiatives to reduce the number of stray dogs on the streets,” he said while appreciating the efforts of Mars Petcare for bringing together an event to celebrate indie pets.
The dogs at the show were awarded on three parameters – obedience, fancy dress, and physically challenged best and cutest dog.
Along with the dog show, Mars Petcare in association with Vets’ Society for Animal Welfare and Rural Development (VSWORD) – an AWBI recognised animal welfare organisation based out of Hyderabad – also invited citizens along with their dogs for a series of events which includes pet health camp and stray puppy adoption.
Emphasising on creating a more compassionate society for the stray animals, Ganesh Ramani, General Manager, Mars Petcare India, said, “With such events we intend to change the perception that pet-owners have towards indie dogs and create more acceptance for them amongst people. We called it #IndieProud because Indian dogs, unlike foreign breeds, are better suited for Indian conditions from a health and wellness perspective. We will continue our work with organisations like VSAWRD to undertake initiatives for these pets to be more wanted, welcomed, and cared for.”
