Hyderabad: Towards empowering physically challenged in higher education institutions, Osmania University (OU) has taken a step forward by establishing a Centre for Disabilities Resources in the Department of Sociology, University College of Arts and Social Sciences, OU.
The new centre is in tune with the UGC and Government of India mandate and direction for empowering persons with disabilities, the OU said in a press release on Friday.
The facility will enable counselling of students and scholars with disabilities on matters concerning further education and career opportunities, mental and physical well-being, and peer mentoring, it said.
Dr B Madhuri Smitha, Associate Professor of Economics, University College for Women, has been appointed the first director of the Centre. She is the recipient of the State Best Teacher Award 2021.
