Hyderabad: Traffic congestion at Owaisi Hospital Junction and Midhani Junction, two of the busiest spots in Chandrayangutta are all set to ease, with work progressing quite fast on a three-lane uni-directional flyover.
The flyover, which facilitates traffic coming from Midhani Junction and going to Owaisi Hospital Junction, starts near the Midhani Junction and ends around 300 metres away from the Owaisi Hospital junction, easing traffic at these two congested junctions. The 1.36 km long and 12 m wide flyover is being built under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) at an estimated cost of Rs 63 crore.
“Laying of all the 38 pier foundations has been completed and the facility will be made operational by December,” the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said in a press release on Tuesday.
Civic body officials said that once the facility was made available, traffic would ease on the busy Midhani – Owaisi Hospital junction stretch. “This project has multiple benefits. Besides being useful for locals, it will be of great use to Central government employees too,” said Dattu Panth, GHMC superintending engineer, Projects Wing (Charminar Zone).
“Many employees working in DRDO, DRDL, ASL and other Central government offices use the Chandrayangutta – Karmanghat via Owaisi Hospital Junction stretch. This flyover will ensure better commuting for scores of people,” Panth said.
The flyover will also be a connecting project for the eastern part of the city and the Old City.
“From Old City, people can go to LB Nagar via Karmanghat using the flyover avoiding the Owaisi Hospital Junction,” said Suresh, GHMC executive engineer, Projects Wing (Charminar Zone).
