Hyderabad: Child kidnapped from Niloufer Hospital rescued
The child's mother, J Madhavi, 30, a resident of Shahbad in Ranga Reddy had gone to the hospital for a checkup along with the child, Uvika, on Wednesday morning.
Hyderabad: An 18-month-old baby girl, who was kidnapped from the Niloufer Hospital at Nampally here this morning, was rescued within a few hours and reunited with her mother, thanks to the swift action by the City Police.
The child’s mother, J Madhavi, 30, a resident of Shahbad in Ranga Reddy had gone to the hospital for a checkup along with the child, Uvika, on Wednesday morning.
“Madhavi, after undergoing a few tests, got busy collecting reports at the counter and loosened her grip on the child for a few moments. Within those few minutes, the girl went missing. Unable to find her child, she approached the police,” Nampally Inspector Khaleel Pasha said, adding that one police team immediately rushed to the hospital while another team in the police station began checking footage from surveillance cameras in the area.
CCTV footage showed one woman coming out of the hospital along with a child resembling Uvika. “On noticing the woman’s suspicious movement, we showed the footage to the child’s mother, who identified it as her daughter. Teams immediately set out to trace the kidnapper and child,” said the Inspector.
Based on inputs provided by an auto-rickshaw driver, the police tracked the woman to a toddy compound in Habeebnagar and rescued the child.
“She told us that she had found the child in the hospital and took her away. However, we are questioning her to know the motive of the kidnap,” Khaleel Pasha said.
The child was handed over to the mother by Saifabad ACP C Venugopal Reddy.
