Citizens can directly report through the app if a candidate or party violates the code and the complaints can include instances of distribution of money, liquor, gifts, unauthorised use of loudspeakers, inflammatory remarks on religion or caste, and election rallies conducted without permission.

The users can download the cVIGIL app on their smartphones and register their details. They can capture a photo or video of the violation, upload images or videos of banners with leaders, voter inducement activities, or public representatives at government offices violating the code.

Complaints submitted via the app are immediately reviewed by the Election Commission, with actions initiated within 100 minutes, the press release said adding that the identities and phone numbers of complainants are kept confidential by the ECI.
