Hyderabad: With the pandemic, there has been an increase in the number of people wearing masks to protect themselves from the fast-spreading Covid-19 virus. However, in recent times, city dwellers have been using these protective masks not just for themselves but their vehicles as well.

Sharing one such picture, the Hyderabad City Police took to their official social media handles to throw light at the traffic defaulters.

In the picture, a man is seen riding a bike without a helmet and has covered the number plate with a mask to avoid being ticketed by the Hyderabad Traffic Police for not wearing a helmet. “These new variant patients will be treated with proper IPC sections,” the caption of the post read.

While several netizens expressed their frustration at having to pay huge fines imposed by the traffic police, many joined the city police in mocking the defaulters.

“Mask on your face to avoid quarantine, but mask on your number plate will take you and your vehicle to quarantine (jail) for much longer time,” wrote a user. “Instead of fixing mask at wrong place, it would be better if it is fixed at the place where it is supposed to be. That can save life,” wrote another.

A third user wrote: The solution to this is active policing. Police have to move (patrolling)on the bikes or police cars and catch the traffic rule violators immediately. People have become smart, they are covering the license plate as soon as they see police taking pics.

In recent times, the police have been spotting several traffic offenders cover the number plates in many creative ways – either use a black tape to cover a digit, use tape to cover the number plate or even fold the plate in some instances. Warning city dwellers from such malpractices, the Hyderabad city police said there will be strict action taken against such offenders if caught.
