Hyderabad: To make the highways signal-free, Hyderabad will soon have two more flyovers, said Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi, after inspecting the Shaikpet, Owaisi flyover works that were taken up under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor said, “In view of increased traffic, the civic body is setting up signal-free highways to tackle traffic woes. Under the SRDP programme, GHMC is undertaking developmental works in the city with a budget of Rs 8,000 crore, of which Rs 2,000 crore has already been spent to complete the 22 pending projects while another 25 pending projects will be covered with the remaining amount in the next year.” Link roads, missing roads, development of junctions will be given top priority, said the Mayor and invited recommendations from corporators and MLAs.

The Shaikpet flyover stretching approximately 2.71 km from Khairatabad zone circle 18 to Serilingampalli Malkam Cheruvu with six lanes is being built with an estimated cost of Rs 333.55 crore. Easing traffic woes for over 4 lakh vehicles that ply on this major traffic corridor in the city, the flyover connects Lakdi-ka-pul to Mehdipatnam, Gachibowli via Tolichowki. The flyover will also connect the Biodiversity junction and JNTU junction providing traffic-free transportation for 17 km.

Owaisi flyover built with an estimated budget of Rs 63 crore, stretches across 1.36 km and promises to ease the traffic flow from southern to eastern parts of the city. The flyover connects Aramghar and LB Nagar and regulates the traffic at Midhani Owaisi junction.
SRDP project CE Devanand, Zonal Commissioners Priyanka Ala, Ravi Kiran, Ashok Samrat, SRDP SEs Venkata Ramana and Dathupantu took part in the event.
