Hyderabad comes alive with Airtel Marathon 2021

Hyderabad: Returning after one year gap owing to Covid-19, the 10th edition of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon saw over 6,000 runners taking part in the annual event in the city on Sunday. Braving the chilly weather, the citizens came out in large numbers to cheer the runners.

The run, held in 10k, half marathon and full marathon, was flagged off by Hyderabad Police Commissioner, Anjani Kumar. The music bands and large-scale entertainment arranged during the route, kept the runners’ spirits high. The route included Hyderabad’s latest tourist spot cable bridge over Durgam Cheruvu.


Over 500 runners took part in the full marathon while around 2,000 competed in the half marathon. The 10k run saw over 3,500 participants.

Meanwhile, Stephen Kosgei recorded 2 hours, 23 minutes and 52 seconds to win the top position in the full marathon while Manvendra Singh and Mohith Rathod took second and third positions. Sonika clocked 2.56.07 for the top prize in the women’s section.

Tirthapun, with a timing of 1.7.34, won half marathon gold while Parasappa Halijol and Naveen took silver and bronze in the half marathon. Varsha Devi won the gold in the women’s section. The 10k run saw Suhaib stand on the podium with 32.17 seconds while G Rahul and Nanhen Verma took second and third places.

Full Marathon: Men: 1. Stephen Kosgei, 2. Manvendra Singh, 3. Mohith Rathod; Women: 1. Sonika, 2. Jyoti Gawate, 3. Divyanka Chaudhary;

Half marathon: Men: 1. Tirthapun, 2. Parasappa Halijol, 3. Naveen;

Women: 1. Varsha Devi, 2. Ferheen Firdose, 3. Kavita Reddy;

10k: Men: 1. Suhaib, 2. G Rahul, 3. Nanhen Verma;

Women: 1. Bharathi Nain, 2. Poonam Sonune, 3. Rinky Pawara.
