Hyderabad: Hundreds of commuters were caught off-guard on Saturday evening, after heavy traffic congestion brought several key roads at Tank Bund and the surrounding areas to a near standstill due to a series of events including visits of weekend crowds, a public event and a scheduled candle-light rally of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The areas around Tank Bund and PVNR Marg witnessed unprecedented traffic as large numbers of weekend visitors, the ongoing ‘Crackers Utsav’ at People’s Plaza, and the CM’s rally converged simultaneously, resulting in severe gridlock.
Traffic came to a halt on the Khairatabad flyover, while long queues of vehicles stretched for kilometres along NTR Marg, Liberty, Tank Bund, and surrounding roads.
Motorists, RTC buses and auto-rickshaws were caught in bumper-to-bumper traffic, causing significant delays during the evening peak hours.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Traffic Police issued an advisory requesting commuters to avoid Tank Bund, PVNR Marg, NTR Marg, Liberty, and other stretches until the situation normalises.
Police personnel were deployed at major junctions to regulate traffic, manage diversions, and ease congestion.
