Hyderabad: A convict hanged himself to death at Cherlapally Central Jail, on Saturday night.
Banothu Srinu (32) of Suryapet district was shifted to the Central Prison Cherlapally in 2019 after being awarded life imprisonment by the court there for his involvement in a case of a murder reported in 2017 in Arvapalli in Suryapet.
On Saturday night, around 10.40 pm, Srinu attempted suicide by hanging to the window in the barrack in the jail premises. On noticing it, he was administered first aid at the hospital in the jail and later shifted to Osmania General Hospital by the jail authorities where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The jail officials told the police that Srinu was not keeping well for last few days and might have ended his life over it. A case under Section 176 of CrPC was registered and the body shifted to Osmania Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
