Hyderabad cop arrested for rape, assault after false promise of marriage

Hyderabad: A police constable was arrested on charges of raping, assaulting and threatening a woman in Medchal.

As per available information, though the incident occurred over a year ago, it came to light now after the victim approached the Medchal police.

Sudhakar Reddy, a police constable from the crime team had taken advantage of the woman who earlier came to the police station to lodge a complaint. He became friend with her and with a promise of marriage, allegedly raped her multiple times. Subsequently, she became pregnant.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the Medchal police booked a case under various sections and arrested Sudhakar Reddy and remanded him in judicial custody.

The police also found that the constable took the woman to his house to convince her to get the abortion done. There, she was attacked by Sudhakar and his wife, resulting in serious injuries.
