Hyderabad: Cops bust kidney racket at Alkananda Hospital in Doctors Colony
According to officials, the gang roped in doctors from neighbouring States to remove kidneys and later sell them to patients who were in need of a kidney transplant
Hyderabad: An alleged organ trade racket being operated from Doctors Colony in the city was busted by the Rachakonda Police and Health Department officials on Tuesday.
On specific information, the health officials, along with Saroornagar police, raided Alkananda Hospital located at Doctors Colony in Saroornagar. The officials, during the inspection, found that the hospital management did not have any permission from the government.
It was alleged the hospital was being used for illegal kidney trade by an organised gang who were luring poor people from different States and offering them huge money for selling their kidney.
The gang was roping in doctors from neighbouring States to remove kidneys and later sell them to patients who were in need of a kidney transplant, it was alleged.
Dr Venkateshwar Rao, DMHO Ranga Reddy district, said two donors and two recipients of kidneys were found during the raid. “All the doctors escaped from the place. One Sumanth, who is a manager, was taken into custody. The patients are from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. On examination, we found there was some kidney transplantation done on two patients,” he said.
The police and health authorities shifted the four to Gandhi Hospital and sealed the hospital. The Health Department officials lodged a complaint with the Saroornagar police who registered a case.
