Hyderabad: Hyderabad Task Force along with Abid Road police on Saturday arrested an interstate gang of burglars and automobile thieves, thus solving 26 cases.

The six-member gang was involved in cases in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police limits and also in Sangareddy district, police said. A total of 23 bikes, gold and silver ornaments and other gadgets, all worth Rs 35 lakh, were recovered.

The arrested persons were Wajeed from Bidar, Karnataka, Shaik Sonu from Bidar, Abdul Sameer from Vattepally, Babu Rao from Bidar, Mohd Sameer from Rajendranagar and Mohd Ismail from Karimnagar district. Three suspects, Shahid, Amer, both from Bidar, and Mohd Ilyas from Tolichowki are absconding. Abdul Sameer is involved in a murder and robbery case too.

According to the police, Wajeed, leader of the gang, along with the others used to rent rooms in lodges, from where they planned to target locked houses in remote localities on the city outskirts, City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said.

“After the theft, the stolen bikes and other material are sent to Bidar, Karimnagar and Nizamabad for disposal. They share the money. Some stolen bikes were also mortgaged to customers for low amounts ranging between Rs 15,000 and Rs 30,000. All these crimes were committed by the gang in the span of one year,” Anjani Kumar said.

The gang was involved in four cases in Hyderabad, 15 in Cyberabad, one in Rachakonda and six in Sangareddy district. Following a tip-off, the Task Force South Zone team along with the Abid Road police nabbed the gang and recovered stolen material from them.
