Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police on Thursday caught seven persons and seized drugs worth Rs. 16 lakh from them.
The arrested persons were Imran Babu Shaik, Noor Mohammed Khan, Syed Khaiser Hussain, Syed Rashid Ahmed Khan, Najbul Hasan Shaik, AR Anirudh and K Avinash.
The police seized 98 grams of cocaine, 45 grams of MDMA, 27 ecstasy pills and 17 LDS blots from them.
City Police Commissioner CV Anand said Task Force teams caught the seven persons, who belonged to different drug cartels and were sourcing the contraband from persons based mostly in Mumbai.
“After bringing it to the city, the gangs were selling it to drug users, mostly youngsters. We have identified the kingpins and efforts are on to nab them also,” Anand said.
The police said interrogation of the arrested suspects had revealed a few names of local persons who were purchasing drugs from them. “We will initiate action against them as per the provisions of the NDPS Act,” the Commissioner said, adding that the police were watching those who were previously involved in drug cases.
“Our aim is to curb production, transportation, distribution and local sale of drugs in the city. We will bring to book all those involved in drug peddling at any cost,” he said.
