Hyderabad: Covid victim’s jewellery ‘missing’, kin lodge complaint
When enquired, the family members allegedly got vague replies from the staff and management prompting them to lodge a complaint with the Gachibowli police
Hyderabad: The family members of an elderly woman, who died of Covid-19 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gachibowli, approached the police alleging that her gold ornaments were missing.
According to police, an elderly couple from Attapur got admitted to the hospital on April 9. After recovering, the husband was discharged, while the wife, aged 70, was undergoing treatment. However, she passed away on April 18 and her family was informed by the hospital authorities, as per the procedures.
The next day, her family members arrived at the hospital and the body was handed over to them, apart from her belongings. When the family members checked, they found her gold ornaments, reportedly weighing about 4 tolas, missing.
When enquired, the family members allegedly got vague replies from the staff and management prompting them to lodge a complaint with the Gachibowli police. Police said the hospital authorities, as per the procedure make sure there are no valuables left on the patient and take a confirmation with the family members too. In this case also, the family reportedly has submitted an undertaking stating there were no valuables in the woman’s possession.
“We have booked a case and have started investigation. We are verifying the claims. The investigation is in progress and nothing concrete has come out yet. Based on further evidence, necessary action will be initiated,” said an official.
