Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has cautioned the public about fraudulent WhatsApp accounts impersonating him and sending messages to people using his photograph as a display picture.
In a social media post titled “Beware! Don’t be fooled by the face,” the senior officer said it had come to his notice that several fake profiles were contacting individuals pretending to be him.
“These are fake accounts, completely deceptive. Don’t respond to such messages. Block and report those numbers immediately,” he advised.
He urged citizens not to share personal details or transfer money if asked by such impostors.
“Your caution is the biggest barrier against cyber fraudsters,” Sajjanar said.
If anyone comes across fake WhatsApp accounts, police requested them to call the Cybercrime Helpline 1930 or lodge a complaint on the National Cybercrime Portal at cybercrime.gov.in.
