Hyderabad: In an enforcement drive against the sale of banned Chinese manja, the Secunderabad Zone Police have arrested 12 suppliers and sellers from across the city and seized 162 bobbins of the hazardous nylon thread, valued at about Rs 1.88 lakh on Thursday.

The special drive was conducted at various locations in Chikkadpally, Gandhinagar and Osmania University areas and cases registered at Kacheguda, Domalguda and Amberpet police stations.

At Kacheguda, police arrested five persons involved in illegal stocking and sale of Chinese manja and seized 106 bobbins along with mobile phones. Officials said that the stock was sourced from Old Delhi.

In Domalguda, four students were caught selling Chinese manja near NTR Stadium, leading to the seizure of eight bobbins. Police said the suspects were attempting to earn easy money by supplying the banned thread during the festive season.

In a similar incident in Amberpet, police seized 48 bobbins of Chinese manja and arrested one person, while two others are on the run.

Officials said efforts were on to trace the absconding suspects and nab them.
