Hyderabad cyclists urge HMDA to repair cracks on 23-km cycling track

Cyclists and fitness enthusiasts have urged HMDA to repair cracks and damaged bollards along Hyderabad's 23-km Cycling Track, warning of potential safety hazards. The appeal comes days after controversy over the removal of a section of the track near My Home Avatar Junction.

Hyderabad: Amateur cyclists and health enthusiasts in Hyderabad on Thursday urged the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to take up repairs of the 23-km-long Hyderabad Cycling Track. They urged authorities to strengthen regular maintenance so that the cycling track is safe for everyone.

“We have noticed a few growing cracks along certain stretches of the track. Over time, the gaps between these cracks are widening slightly, which could potentially catch standard bicycle tires and cause unexpected trips or injuries to unaware riders,” the cycling riders said.

Cycling enthusiast S Ravi, writing on X (as the Telangana Hyderabad Bicycle Ambassador), said: “We would be immensely grateful if these repair spots could be looked into during the regular maintenance drive”.

Cyclists also urged authorities to look into the damaged bollards and said, “A few bollards at several junctions/intersections appear to be broken or misplaced, which might compromise safety at those entry and exit points.”

A few days ago, the track grabbed headlines when the cycling community expressed frustration over the dismantling of a 34-metre section near My Home Avatar Junction. The move, executed by the HGCL to accommodate a new U-turn and underpass, drew criticism, triggering a debate over sustainable mobility.
