Hyderabad: Ongoing deep excavation works in the vicinity resulted in visible cracks appearing in a five-storey building at Chaknawadi in Goshamahal on Monday afternoon.
Panicked residents reported the issue after noticing massive cracks along the walls and ceilings. The incident occurred at around 4 pm.
The deep excavation carried out for the construction of a new building next door caused the five-storey structure to show signs of sinking.
The development spread anxiety among the residents in the neighborhood. Locals immediately informed police and GHMC officials.
“As the situation grew serious, Goshamahal police reached the spot and immediately evacuated the building’s occupants. Those inside the cracked building came out in fear and stood outside,” Deputy Commissioner, Goshamahal, GHMC Uma Prakash told Telangana Today. No one was hurt in the incident, said the GHMC official.
Previous incidents of the nala (drainage channel) sinking multiple times in the same area are causing further concern. Officials have since cordoned off the area to fully assess the danger and have temporarily halted the new construction work.
Locals, angered by the GHMC officials’ initial apathy, alleged that despite informing officials immediately, there was no timely response.
