Hyderabad: Ongoing deep excavation works in the vicinity resulted in visible cracks appearing in a five-storey building at Chaknawadi in Goshamahal on Monday afternoon.
Panicked residents reported the issue after noticing massive cracks along the walls and ceilings. The incident occurred at around 4 pm.
The deep excavation carried out for the construction of a new building next door caused the five-storey structure to show signs of sinking.
The development spread anxiety among residents in the neighbourhood. Locals immediately informed the police and GHMC officials.
“As the situation grew serious, Goshamahal police reached the spot and immediately evacuated the building’s occupants. Those inside the cracked building came out in fear and stood outside,” Deputy Commissioner Goshamahal GHMC Uma Prakash told Telangana Today. No one was hurt in the incident, said the GHMC official.
Previous incidents of the nala sinking multiple times in the same area have caused further concern. Officials have since cordoned off the locality to fully assess the danger and have temporarily halted the new construction work.
Locals, angered by what they described as the GHMC officials’ delayed response, alleged that despite informing authorities immediately, there was no timely action.
