Hyderabad: Dentists in Hyderabad and surrounding districts have protested the steep charges set for biomedical waste management by the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB).

Dental practitioners describe the fees for managing biomedical waste as excessive and want it to be revised. As per a 2025 circular of TGPCB, biomedical waste companies must charge Rs 1,000 to Rs 1, 200 per month in Hyderabad and RR districts.

“Private biomedical waste management companies are charging more than the prescribed amount from dental clinics in Hyderabad. The PCB must direct biomedical waste companies to strictly collect the prescribed amount,” says Dr Md Manzur Ahmed, president, All India Dental Surgeons Association (AIDSA)-Telangana.

He pointed out the need for the regulatory authority to reduce the existing pricing for handling biomedical waste generated by dental clinics as it is quite high when compared to other Indian states.

Small and medium dental clinics with one dental chair find it difficult to afford this kind of money. While hospitals pay per bed or per kg, dental clinics pay fixed monthly fee, which is high for facilities that produce very less biomedical waste, the AIDSA said adding that it plans a ‘Chalo Pollution Control Board’ rally on July 19.
