Hyderabad: Diwali celebrations lead to surge in eye injuries

Majority of the patients are undergoing treatment at the outpatient wings while a few are scheduled to undergo surgeries.

Hyderabad: Around 50 persons, including 35 children, have sought treatment for various kinds of eye related injuries sustained during Diwali celebrations, at State-run Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in the last 24 -hours.

Majority of the patients are undergoing treatment at the outpatient wings while a few are scheduled to undergo surgeries,
authorities said.


Out of the 50 injured, 9 persons have suffered serious injuries to their eyes while celebrating Diwali on Thursday and rest of the patients are undergoing treatment for minor injuries in the hospital’s OP wings on Friday.

The outpatient wings of SD Eye Hospital and other private eye care facilities in Hyderabad are expected to remain busy throught Friday with case eye injuries sustained during Diwali celebrations.

The OGH outpatient wing is also anticipating to receive patients with burn injuries on Friday.
