Hyderabad: Doctors at Birthright by Rainbow Hospitals, Financial District, successfully managed a rare and complicated pregnancy condition – placenta percreta, and ensured a safe delivery with minimal blood loss and no transfusions.

The patient, a 26-year-old woman, was diagnosed with placenta percreta, a condition where the placenta abnormally attaches to the uterine wall and penetrates through it, invading nearby organs like the bladder or bowel.

Dr Himabindu, Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon, said, “We counselled the patient and her family about the risks, complications and our plan to undertake additional procedures to reduce the risk. We decided to deliver the baby at 35 weeks to avoid the onset of labour or an emergency bleeding situation.”

The multi-disciplinary team led by Dr Himabindu included Dr Srinivas and Dr Geetha, anaesthetists from Axon group; Dr Vipin Goel, surgical oncologist and Dr Mahesh, interventional radiologist from Star hospitals, along with nursing staff and senior management.
