Hyderabad: Dowry harassment drives woman to end life

Hyderabad: A housewife died allegedly by suicide after hanging herself in Hayathnagar on Monday night.

G Swathi (29) was married to Ganesh two years ago. At the time of marriage, her parents gave Rs 10 lakh money, five tolas of gold and other articles as dowry at the time their marriage, the Hayathnagar police said, adding that however, Ganesh and his parents demanded an additional dowry of Rs 10 lakh from Swathi’s parents, saying he wanted to go abroad. Swathi’s family paid Rs 5 lakh a few months ago, but he kept demanding for the remaining amount.

“On Monday night, she hanged herself at the house. Her parents said she had slipped into depression over the additional dowry demands and harassment,” police said. A case has been registered and the investigation is on.
