Hyderabad: Chukwu Ogbonna David alias Tony, who is being questioned by the Punjagutta police in connection with drug trafficking case, used a network of couriers, including women to supply cocaine to his clients.
A woman, from Mumbai also served as an agent on a few instances for Tony and supplied the drug to customers. The police who checked the contact list and call details of Tony found he was using two mobile phones including one having a Nigerian SIM card for communication with his agents, who in turn dealt with the customers.
The agents travelled by private cars or buses fearing getting caught during security checks at the airports. “Since security levels are high at the airports, the agents preferred to bring in the drug to the city in private cars or buses. Only on a few instances, they used to send it through courier,” said a police official who is supervising the investigation.
Tony along with seven other businessmen was arrested by the Hyderabad police early this month in a drug trafficking case. Around 15 more businessmen who made dealings with agents of Tony were identified by the police and efforts are on to nab them.
The police are keen to know how the seven businessmen who were arrested along with Tony came in contact with him and how the drug trafficking network works. “Tony catered to his regular clients only and not so easily to new comers. A chain of middlemen connected the consumers with the suppliers and a few names have come out during questioning,” said the official.
