Hyderabad: The immersion of Goddess Durga idols, installed as part of Navaratri festivities, in Hyderabad faced significant delays on Sunday morning due to persistent heavy rainfall.
Due to the heavy downpour in the morning, the immersion procession slowed and led to around 100 trucks and DCM vehicles transporting idols lining up from Necklace Road up to Secretariat and Telugu Thalli flyover. Initially, 30 trucks were on the immersion route, but by 10 am, the number increased to 100 as the heavy rain delayed the immersion process.
A traffic jam occurred from NTR Gardens up to Liberty, causing commuters to face delays as vehicles moved slowly along the stretch. Traffic police managed the situation to alleviate congestion.
The GHMC authorities had designated Necklace Road at Hussain Sagar Lake as the venue for the immersion of idols and large cranes were arranged to ensure the event proceeded smoothly. Police were deployed at the immersion area to maintain peace during the ceremony.
Devotees joined the processions in large numbers despite the heavy rains and participated in the immersion. Although the slow pace extended the waiting time for the pandal organisers to immerse the idols, the process was completed by late afternoon.
