Hyderabad: One can spot transformers and electric poles on several major roads of the city, which cause traffic hurdles and even lead to accidents. Many a time, we blame the poor condition of roads for accidents but fail to notice how a precariously-located electric pole or a transformer contributes to the bloodshed on the roads.

At a meeting on Friday, the power distribution company officials took up the issue of electric poles and transformers in the middle of roads obstructing hassle-free passage of vehicles and decided to remove obstacles on roads where road expansion work was underway in the city, including Shaikpet, Vanasthalipuram, LB Nagar, Gachibowli, Uppal, Habsiguda, Masab Tank and other busy roads.

Divisional Engineers from TGSPDCL, Traffic Police Department, Station House Officer, GHMC Executive Engineer, Town Planning and ACP cadre officers have been appointed as Nodal Officers to oversee the works.

These nodal officers have been formed into a team and asked to identify the road obstructions by the end of December and complete the process of necessary estimates and permissions for their removal or relocation by February. In addition, SPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Ali Faruqui had directed the electricity officers to immediately remove the unused electricity poles and poles lying on the roads.
