Hyderabad: An engineering dropout who fled with Rs 29.50 lakh belonging to his roommate was arrested by the Rachakonda police within 24 hours. The money was also recovered from him.
Avula Naresh (22), a native of Warangal, stayed along with three friends in a sharing room at Nagaram village in Keesara. Due to the lockdown, he had lost his job and left for Warangal a few months ago.
“During his stay in the city, Naresh had heard his friend Yogeshwar Rao telling his friends that he had lost the key of the room where he had kept Rs 29.50 lakh in a suitcase,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said, adding that on Tuesday night, Naresh came to the city from Warangal and when Yogeshwar went out, opened the room with a key he had with him and stole the money.
Yogeshwar noticed the money missing later and approached the police a little after midnight. Special teams were formed by the Keesara police and Naresh was detained based on suspicion.
On interrogation, he admitted to stealing the money, police said. Naresh was arrested and produced before court, after which he was remanded.
