Hyderabad: A third-year engineering student died by suicide at his house in Hayathnagar in the city’s outskirts due to the alleged harassment of college management on Friday night.

The man, M Praneeth (21), a native of Jagityal and resident of Hayathnagar, was pursuing his third year from Sri Indu College. On Friday, Praneeth went to the college for a hall ticket when one Krishna Murthy, who works at the college, demanded that Praneeth pay Rs 5000 as he had not attended the college regularly. When Praneeth expressed his inability to pay the amount, Krishna Murthy allegedly abused and threatened him.

“Praneeth allegedly slipped into depression and went to his house at Hayathnagar, where he hanged himself from the ceiling fan using a rope. The father of Praneeth blamed the college management for the death of his son,” said Inspector Hayathnagar, P Nagaraju Goud.

A case is registered, and an investigation is going on.
