Hyderabad: A 20-year-old engineering student died by suicide in her hostel room at Narsingi on Tuesday night.
B Sushmita, a native of Armoor in Nizamabad district, was pursuing IT second year at a private engineering college in the city and staying in a private women’s hostel.
According to the police, Sushmita did not attend college and remained in her room. In the late evening, her roommate Archana knocked on the door but received no response.
The hostel warden alerted another student, Naveen, and together they forcibly opened the door to find Sushmita hanging from the ceiling fan.
They informed the hostel owner, the victim’s maternal uncle, and emergency services.
The Narsingi police registered a case based on a complaint by hostel owner Sai Kiran and are investigating.
Sushmita’s father, Malkaiah, is a farmer, and she was survived by her elder sister and younger brother.
Preliminary inquiries suggest family issues may have led to the incident.
