Hyderabad: After a disappointing show in the T20 Mushtaq Ali tournament, a desperate Hyderabad will look to give an improved performance in the Vijay Hazare one-day tournament that gets under way in various centres from Saturday. Placed in Elite Group A match, Hyderabad begin their campaign when they meet Tripura in Surat.
Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Baroda and Goa are the other four teams in this group. This is the second domestic tournament to be conducted by the BCCI in this curtailed season after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the national T20 championship.
The team selection was itself shrouded in controversy as it was picked by a `two-member’ selection committee. To be led by Tanmay Agarwal, Hyderabad have made a few changes from the team that played in Kolkata. However, the inclusion of left-hander B Anirudh, who is back in Hyderabad after a stint in Tamil Nadu, will bolster the middle order along with B Sandeep.
However for some of the young batsman like Thakur Tilak Verma and the big-hitting Mickil Jaiswal it could be an ideal platform to showcase their talent.
Left-arm spinner Mehdi Hasan, too, has made a return to the team after being dropped for the T20 tournament. Ajay Dev Goud impressed with his four-wicket haul in Kolkata but can face a stiff test against teams like Gujarat and Baroda. Having being roped in Chennai Super Kings for IPL, off spinner Bhagath Varma will look to impress for Hyderabad in his first big match for the senior side.
