Hyderabad: The KPHB police arrested a man on charges of posing as a doctor and claiming to be the son of a Member of Parliament from the TDP party, and cheating a women’s hostel owner under the guise of remodelling her gold chain here on Tuesday.

The suspect, V Venkateshwarlu alias Dr Vikranth Reddy (29), a native of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, introduced himself as a neurosurgeon at a private hospital and made multiple visits to the women’s hostel near JNTU in KPHB.

Police said Venkateshwarlu, who gained the trust of the complainant, further claimed he owned a jewellery store and convinced her to give her 4 tolas of gold ornaments for remodelling. He further duped her of Rs 1 lakh on the pretext of adding gold. However, after collecting the money and gold, he went absconding.

Following a complaint, the KPHB police took up the investigation. The suspect was traced and nabbed near the JNTUH traffic signal.

Investigation revealed that Venkateshwarlu was earlier involved in 14 criminal cases across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including theft, cheating and even a rape case.
