Hyderabad: Hyderabad Football Club are on a roll recording three victories in their last four matches to jump to the third place in the Indian Super League points table. Having lost their first encounter against Chennaiyin FC, the Manolo Marquez led side found their mojo to record impressive results. The side from the city of Nawabs will take on resurgent FC Goa, who began with the season losses in their first three matches before recording victories in their last two games.
Speaking about the game, coach Marquez said the Goa side are a tough opponents. “It is not normal that they lost three games in a row, after the record unbeaten run at the end of the last season. They seem to have changed their system in the last two games but still play really good football, sticking to their style,” said Manolo.
“It will be a tough game but like every week it is a difficult game for us and it will be a difficult game for Goa as well. Goa play good football and I like their style. They want to keep the ball and try to play football, which I prefer as well,” added the 53-year-old Spaniard.
HFC’s Bartholomew Ogbeche, who scored two goals in their 5-1 victory over NorthEast United jumped to the top of the goal-scorers’ list with five to his name. Despite good results, the coach is cautious in their approach. “We are still at the beginning of the season. Only one quarter of the competition is done. The biggest learning is that we have to keep playing well.”
He also lamented that playing three games in 10 days can cause injuries. “It is a problem for all teams, not just for us. Three matches in 10 days is too much. It will affect the players’ fitness. We have a good bench and have enough players but it is hectic.”
He also said that the mood in the camp is good after positive results. “When the team is winning it is good for players’ morale. We have to improve a lot. It is our philosophy to play with young players. Our team is a mix of experienced foreigners and young Indian players. It is a big experience for Indian players. It is not about good results but continuing the good work. Every game will be very difficult.”
