Hyderabad: Tense moments were witnessed when fire broke out near Charminar bus stand parking compound on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the local people, fire started in the garbage dump in the old bus stand complex around 2 pm. Noticing the smoke, the local people immediately alerted the Hussainialam police who rushed to the spot and informed the fire control room.
A fire tender from Moghalpura fire station immediately rushed to the spot and doused the fire. “Within 20 minutes, the fire was doused. We suspect some person might have thrown a lighted cigarette there,” said a fireman from Moghalpura fire station.
The local people complained that the garbage was not lifted on time resulting in frequent minor fire with people throwing cigarette butts in the dump. Hundreds of vehicles of shop keepers and visitors are parked in the old bus stand compound.
“All the vehicles parked in the old bus stand have fuel. If fire spreads rapidly and any vehicle catches it, the entire lot of vehicles at the will reduce to ashes,” fears Osman Khan, a local shop keeper.
