Hyderabad: At least four makeshift houses were damaged when a fire broke out in a labour camp near Om Convention in Narsingi on the city outskirts on Tuesday. No casualties were reported in the fire.

Fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit and subsequent LPG leakage. However, officials were to confirm it.

As per available information, the incident occurred when one of the houses caught fire due which soon spread to others. Alerted by this, residents in the houses adjacent to it rushed out to safety. The incident created a panic situation in the vicinity.

Locals in the nearby residential area noticed the fire and thick smoke emanating from the makeshift houses and alerted the fire department and the police.

The police and the fire personnel rushed to the spot and, with fire engines and personnel from both fire and police departments and doused the fire. The presence of straw and plastic material in the houses led to thick smoke, apart from the unpleasant odour in the surroundings.

The total worth of the damaged property is yet to be estimated. The Narsingi police are investigating.
