Hyderabad: Five persons were arrested by the Jagadgirigutta police for allegedly kidnapping and killing a businessman.

The arrested are Basireddy Sudhakar Reddy (59), Pasam Prasad (36), B Kiran Kumar (30), G Venkata Subbaiah (25) and Annika Manikanta (25). The prime suspect B Dwarakanath Reddy (48) is absconding.

According to N Koti Reddy, DCP in-charge Balanagar, the victim K Venkatappanna Reddy and the prime suspect Dwarakanath, were partners in a catering business in Kakinada in A.P. However, Dwarakanath had to pay Rs. 28 lakh to the Venkatappanna and the former to avoid it left Kakinada and went away to some place.

Over a period of time, Venkatappanna, shifted to Hyderabad and was staying in Jagadgirigutta. He worked in a private company. A few months ago, Venkatappanna came to know that Dwarakanath Reddy was staying in Tirupathi and after meeting him, asked him to clear the amount. Dwarakanth issued cheques but due to some reasons it was dishonoured in the bank.

“Venkatappanna, pressurized Dwarakanath to pay the money and the latter to avoid payment planned to kill Venkatappanna. On October 4, the six persons kidnapped the man from Jagathgirigutta and took him in a car to Beechupally in Jogulamba Gadwal district, and after tying his hands and legs threw him in the Krishna River leading to his death,” said N Koti Reddy.

As Venkatappanna, did not return home, the family members approached the police who registered a case. On investigation, the police found some persons had kidnapped Venkatappana and with available clues tracked down the five suspects. The main suspect Dwarakanath is absconding and teams are working to nab him, said the official.
