Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a six-year-old boy died after being run over by a rashly-driven truck at Mallampet in Dundigal on Friday morning.

The incident occurred when the boy, Abhimanshu Reddy (6), a Grade I student of Gitanjali International School, was proceeding to the school on his mother’s scooter from their house in Akash Layout around 8.30 am.

According to the police, Abhimanshu was riding pillion. On reaching near Pallavi School junction, a tipper lorry which was allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner hit their two-wheeler from behind and later ran over the boy. The impact threw both mother and child onto the road, and tragically, the lorry ran over the boy.

“When the truck hit the two-wheeler, the boy fell to the left side and was run over by the heavy vehicle. He suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot,” said a police official.

The Dundigal police booked a case of negligence causing death and injuries against the truck driver and he was taken into custody and the vehicle was seized. He tested negative for drunk driving.

The tragic death has plunged the Mallampet locality into grief, with the school community expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their young student.
