Hyderabad: A major fire accident was reported at a food court in Meerpet on Thursday morning. No casualties were reported, but significant financial losses to the owner were reported.
Police suspect that an electrical short circuit led to the fire.
The food court, owned by Vemula Narasimha, a local resident who has been operating the eatery for the past several years, was engulfed in flames in the early hours. Thick smoke and fire were noticed by nearby residents, who promptly alerted the fire department and local police.
On receiving information, the Meerpet police and fire department officials rushed to the spot immediately and managed to douse the flames and prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent structures. However, the food court was severely damaged in the blaze.
According to the owner, equipment, furniture and other materials were destroyed, resulting in losses estimated at around Rs 50 lakh.
Police are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
