Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police Special Operations Team from Bhongir along with the Yadagirigutta police foiled the plan of four persons, allegedly former members of the CPI (Maoist) party and CPI (ML) Janashakthi group, to extort realtors.
The four persons, who were arrested on Saturday, had allegedly planned extortions and robberies in Hyderabad and Yadadri-Bhongir, police said, adding that three country-made firearms along with live rounds, detonators, gas cylinders, drilling machines, letterheads of the Maoist party, mobile phones and other material were seized from them.
The arrested persons were P.Srinivas alias Srinanna (45) from Jangaon, V.Naga Mallaiah alias Mallesh (58) from Yadadri-Bhongir, E.Srinivas Reddy alias Chandranna (49) from Chikkadpally and G.Swamy alias Mallesh (55) from Nalgonda. One suspect, Ashok, was absconding.
According to the police, the four suspects earlier worked in different extremist outfits including CPI (Maoist) and CPI (ML) Janashakthi groups. Srinanna along with his wife Pushpa had worked with the Janashakthi group between 1994 to 1996, while Mallesh had worked with the CPI (Maoist) and also assisted the Alair Guerilla Squad for one year. Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said the four suspects had later surrendered before the police.
“They then became construction workers in Hyderabad. But, during recent years, they got involved in a few cases including murder and extortion,” Bhagwat said, adding that recently Mallesh met Chandranna and also Srinanna, who assured Mallesh a countrymade firearm for self-protection and threatening his opponent. He took Rs.1 lakh.
“The three colluded to extort money from realtors in Yadagirigutta and Hyderabad posing as Naxalites,” Bhagwat said, adding that Srinanna prepared fake letterheads in the name of the Maoist party with Ashok’s help. Following a tip-off that the gang had gathered at Mallesh’s house, the police raided the premise and nabbed them.
