Hyderabad: Former Uppal MLA Bandaru Rajireddy passed away on Thursday morning after a prolonged illness. He was 80. According to his family, the funeral is expected to be held on Friday.

Rajireddy entered politics through the Congress party and served in various positions. He was elected MLA from Uppal in 2009. He did not contest in 2014, instead fielding his brother Bandaru Lakshma Reddy, who lost that election. Lakshma Reddy later contested on a BRS ticket in 2023 and won.

Leaders across parties mourned Rajireddy’s death. BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed deep sorrow, recalling Rajireddy as a committed leader who rendered notable service to the Uppal constituency. “He will forever remain in the hearts of the people,” he said.

Former Minister T Harish Rao also paid tribute, stating that Rajireddy’s contributions to public life would be remembered. Several Congress leaders visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and recalled his service-oriented approach in politics.
