Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials on Thursday imposed a penalty of Rs 1,000 on four fruit vendors for using ethylene, also called ‘China powder’, to ripen the fruits. The GHMC food inspectors during an inspection at fruit markets located in Kothapet, Jambagh and Charminar, caught the vendors who were artificially ripening the fruits using ethylene which is illegal. Food inspector Sudarshan Reddy and other officials participated in the inspection of markets.
