Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Task Force jointly with the Golconda police arrested eight persons for forgery of birth certificates for Aadhaar enrolment or updations. The suspects used unauthorized Aadhaar kits with Assam identity proofs and updated Aadhaar card details of customers.
The arrested persons are T.Nitesh Singh (30) from Borabanda, Syed Mustafa (28) from Tolichowki, Rabbani MA (28) from Tolichowki, Mohd.Azhar Shareef (27) from Hakeempet in Tolichowki, Mohd.Sohail (23) from Borabanda, Shaik Jahangir Pasha (37), Mohd.Anwaruddin (34) from Attapur in Rajendranagar, Mohd.Ahmed (20) from Charminar. The absconding person is Pavan (35) from Assam.
Nitesh, Syed Mustafa, Jahangir and Anwaruddin are friends and Rabbani, Azhar Shareef are workers in Syed Mustafa’s internet center while Sohail worked at Nitesh’s shop.
According to the police, in 2017, Syed Mustafa started online services business in Tolichowki, but incurred loss and debts due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown.
While looking for ways to make easy money, he was informed by Nitesh about his friend Pavan, who is working in an Aadhaar center at Assam, having identity proofs for Aadhaar enrolment.
“The suspects decided to apply for Aadhaar cards for customers fraudulently, using Assam identity proofs. There is an order from the central government that identity proofs issued for states should be used within the state only. But the suspects with a malicious intention to cheat the government used the identity proofs of Assam residents for Aadhaar enrollments and updation in Hyderabad,” said Anjani Kumar, Police Commissioner, Hyderabad.
In October, Nitesh purchased six Aadhaar enrollment identity proofs of Assam from Pavan for Rs.90,000. He kept a few and sold remaining to other suspects. The gang also procured Aadhaar kits individually and started enrollments in their shops.
They procured various stamps in the name of gazetted officer and used for attestation for Aadhaar enrollment and collected between Rs.2,000 and Rs.3,000 from each applicant.
On the complaint given by the UIDAI, two cases, one each in Banjara Hills and Golconda were booked. Police seized laptops, fingerprint slabs, cameras, stamps, forged birth certificates, cash of Rs.80,000, fake Aadhaar cards and other material from them.
