Hyderabad gang-raped victim beaten with rods
The police, who recorded the victim’s statement on Thursday, said the girl was in a state of trauma and was admitted to a private hospital in Medipally.
Hyderabad: Four persons were detained in connection with the alleged kidnap and gang-rape of a 19-year-old degree student on Wednesday night at Nagaram on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The police, who recorded the victim’s statement on Thursday, said the girl was in a state of trauma and was admitted to a private hospital in Medipally. She has an injury on the right leg, where the assailants had beaten her with an iron rod when she resisted their attempts and tried to escape. The incident is already drawing parallels to the November 2019 Shadnagar gang-rape and murder.
According to the police, the victim was on Wednesday evening waiting for transport to go home from her college at Nagaram in Keesara. She saw a seven-seat share auto-rickshaw and boarded it as an elderly woman and another girl were already in it. However, the two other women got down at Satyanarayana Nagar and after some time, two men got into the vehicle.
“She panicked when the auto driver did not stop where she had to get down, and instead, sped off. He stopped the vehicle at Yamnampet village, where another man with a van was waiting. The four men then dragged her into the van and started towards Ghatkesar,” police said.
The girl, however, in between managed to call her parents, who, in turn, called the police on Dial 100 at 6.30 pm. Teams from the Keesara, Ghatkesar and Kushaiguda police immediately began tracking the van based on signals from the girl’s mobile phone.
“Because her mobile phone was still on, our technical team managed to track her live location and inform other teams on the ground. By the time police managed to trace them and reach the spot, the kidnappers had stopped at a secluded place at Annojiguda and dragged her into the nearby bushes where her clothes were torn and she was raped. They also began attacking her with sticks and iron rods when she resisted but fled the spot when they saw police patrol cars and her family members in the vicinity,” police said.
The Rachakonda Police had formed 10 special teams, which managed to track down the suspects, who are all auto drivers from Rampally, by Thursday. The details of the suspect, however, are yet to be made public.
The police are also yet to formally announce the arrests. Meanwhile, officials said they would be charged under sections 376 (D), which pertains to gang rape, 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons) and 354 (B) which pertains to assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to disrobe. These will be in addition to the charge of kidnap (Section 365), which was booked last night itself.
