Hyderabad: The rhythmic echoes of Saddula Bathukamma are yet to fade away following Sunday’s grand state-wide immersion, but the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad have already shifted gears to welcome the final leg of the festive season. With the main festival of Vijayadashami (Dasara) falling on Tuesday, Hyderabad is witnessing contrasting rhythms, including a frantic last-minute rush in the markets all through the day and quiet evenings with family members, relatives and friends.
The festive mood of Dasara, representing the triumph of good over evil, is palpable in the metropolis. Major commercial hubs, from the congested lanes of Begum Bazaar, General Bazaar, and Siddiamber Bazaar to neighborhood markets in Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Cyberabad, have witnessed unrelenting footfalls since Monday morning.
Traders are reporting robust demand for traditional staples. Marigold and chrysanthemum prices have seen the customary seasonal spike, driven by heavy demand for household and Ayudha Pooja. Confectioners and traditional sweetmeat shops are working overtime to meet orders for traditional delicacies, while garment stores, malls and showrooms in Abids, Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Secunderabad, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills are drawing steady streams of festival shoppers.
Automobile showrooms and electronic outlets are bracing for heavy deliveries on Tuesday, historically considered an auspicious day (Vijaya Muhurat) for new asset purchases.
With large congregations anticipated at prominent temples, including the Balkampet Yellamma temple, Secunderabad Mahankali temples, Amberpet and various locally well-known Jammi Chettu sites, to worship the sacred, the Hyderabad and Rachakonda Commissionerates have put comprehensive security and traffic arrangements in place.
Commuters on Tuesday are advised to expect localized traffic slow-downs near prominent neighborhood temples, particularly during evening hours when families step out for traditional puja and visiting Jammi Chettu locations.
On Tuesday afternoon, the focus will shift towards the customary sighting of the Palapitta (Indian roller bird) bird, which is to bring good fortune and visits to Jammai Chettu sites as a symbol of goodwill and prosperity.
With weather conditions expected to remain stable, the stage is set for a peaceful and vibrant Dasara celebrations in Hyderabad.
