Hyderabad: A six-year-old girl was kidnapped allegedly by an unidentified woman from beside her mother at a toddy compound in Shamshabad on the city outskirts.
Though the incident occurred on July 1, it was reported to the police only on Monday night. Following which, the RGIA police booked a kidnap case and took up an investigation.
According to the police, Lakshmamma (30), a construction worker from Mahabubnagar who had come to the Shamshabad area on work, went to the local toddy compound along with her two children – K Keerthana (6) and K Archana (3).
It was when an unidentified middle-aged woman came to the toddy compound and sat near Lakshmamma and started talking. She got close to the two children. When Lakshamamma reportedly started slipping into an inebriated condition, the suspect woman fled with Keerthana from the spot.
After searching for the child in all possible places and waiting for her return for almost one week, Lakshamamma approached the police on Friday night. The RGIA police collected CCTV footage and found the woman walking out of the toddy compound premises.
Officials are examining other surveillance cameras near the spot and on roads towards it to track and nab her and rescue the child at the earliest.
