Hyderabad: Leading global manufacturers from US, UK, France, Israel and other nations have chosen Hyderabad to establish their manufacturing, engineering, training and innovation centres in India. The repeat investments of the OEMs including Lockheed Martin is a great indicator of the reliability of Telangana’s ecosystem, which is being lauded as the true hub for “Make in India” in the defence sector, said Industries Minister KT Rama Rao.
Speaking at a ceremonial event to mark the production of the first F-16 fighter wing prototype at the Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures facility at Adibatla, Hyderabad on Tuesday, KTR said, “Telangana today has the most active and well supported aerospace and defence ecosystem in India. The sector has witnessed unprecedented growth during the past five years, anchored on the progressive policies of the State government such as the TS-iPASS, world-class infrastructure support and unmatched ease of doing business.”
The State has been recognised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation as the best State in 2018 and 2020 for its most progressive outlook towards the aerospace sector. Hyderabad has also been ranked No 1 by fDI’s Aerospace Cities of the Future 2020-21 rankings, under the category of ‘Top 10 Aerospace Cities in Cost-Effectiveness’. fDI Intelligence.com is a division of Financial Times Group.
“I would like to thank Lockheed Martin and Tata Group for their continued contributions made so far for the growth of the aerospace and defence ecosystem in Hyderabad. The partnership between Lockheed Martin and Tata Group anchored in Hyderabad is going stronger spanning multiple manufacturing programmes, “ he added, assuring all the support from the State government for the current and future programmes in Hyderabad.
Lockheed Martin and TLMAL partnered in 2018 to develop a fighter wing prototype and as a result of which the first ‘Made in Hyderabad’ and ‘Made in India’ F-16 wing was certified and formally delivered on Tuesday. Over 70 per cent of the detailed parts used in the fighter wings were sourced from Indian suppliers including Tata Sikorsky Aerospace, Azad Engineering, Lakshmi Machine Works and others.
KTR emphasised, F-16 wing manufactured in Hyderabad echoes Lockheed Martin’s confidence in Indian capabilities and its commitment to support India’s defence manufacturing goals. The current milestone is also a testimony to the advanced skill base and capabilities of the Hyderabad ecosystem, which is backed by large enterprises as well as over 1,000 SMEs.
