Hyderabad: A made-in-India sophisticated heart valve ‘Hydra Aortic Valve’ implant procedure was successfully performed on a 74-year-old woman by surgeons at Virinchi Hospitals. Senior cardiologist from the hospital, Dr Sarat Chandra led a team of surgeons who conducted the Trans Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, using the indigenously developed implant.
The implant is usually performed on aged patients whose arteries are rigid, tortuous and flexibility assumes great significance. The implant is retractable, a salient feature, considering the opportunity to appropriately redeploy in instances of less than ideal placement. Hydra Aortic Valve is also priced half of that of imported devices and will be a great relief for Indian patients, who struggle to meet the high medical costs, doctors said.
“The device is both medical fraternity and patient friendly. It has several advanced features making it the prime option for TAVR. Being Indian made and less expensive are amongst the innumerable advantages,” Dr Sarat Chandra said. The procedure was planned and performed by the team of doctors that included Interventional Cardiologists Dr Deepak Saha and Dr Summet Sinha, Dr Avinash Dal, Cardiac Surgeon and Head of Anaesthesia, Dr Muralidhar Joshi.
